“Remembering Rizal” (Narrative)

The date January 18, 2013, Friday is unforgettable. It was a remarkable day especially for us students. First, we have no classes and second, we’re going to watch an exciting yet educational play atthe Assumption Theatre. At first, we unintentionally got bored while waiting outside the theatre for somehow it took long. It started at around 2:00pm. The movie we were about to watch is remembering Rizal date back when he was still young, entitled, “Batang Rizal”. It became an eye opener for ussince it has many twists and it’s a musical. The story goes like this…
It started in a school with a kiddo named Pepito who is a bit playful yet nice. He is studying in a Rizal school. He is with his classmates who often teases and sometimes bully him and together with their strict teacher. They have a fun and happy class who is supported by their own mayor. One time, Pepito incidentally broke the statue of Rizal which the mayor gave and donated to them. Unluckily, he must build it into a new one as his punishment; he doesn’t know what to do until he found a big and magical book which made the story more exciting. He wondered what’s in it until he open and read it. Everyone got amazed not just Pepito to what had happened. Every time he read the book entitled, “Noli Me Tangere”, the story goes realistic and true to life as in true! The scenes, the characters were really true. The young boy began to enter Rizal’s world and the scene is when he is still inPepito’s age too. It’s like a flashback on Jose Rizal’s life when he’s still young. As Pepito enter the ancient time, the people there thought he was Rizal because of their little similarity in names, “Pepito” and “Pepe” as Rizal. The story became better when the two young boys became good friends. The story goes on with Rizal as Pepito reads the book. There was a time that Pepito broughtPepe in his school and all the people there couldn’t believe that it is our national hero who is in front of them. When Rizal recited some of his own poems they began to believe…a bit. Then, the life of Batang Rizal continues.
For me, the touching part is when Pepe knew that he will die in the future to be a hero in our country, Philippines. At first, he was so much proud to himself that he couldn’t believe the reality when his friend Pepito explained that he is our national hero. But, he became sad when he knew that he’ll going to suffer first before he will became our great hero. As time passed, everything got better. Pepe helped Pepito to rebuild the statue he broke and that was the ending of the play. They all had teamwork. The bitterness among the students in Rizal School became already good.
We all know who Jose P. Rizal is. But when I watched the play Batang Rizal, I understand more how bright, good and wise Rizal is even if he still at his young age. And therefore, we enjoyed the playso much since the story creates a great appeal to the audience. Batang Rizal marks the story of Rizal’s life which gave us moral lessons to use in our everyday life especially for us young people.
They were good actors. :)
